Buzzard

Buzzard (2014)

Starring: Jason Roth,Joshua Burge,Lisa Mueller,Marty Jackitansky,Scott Baisden

In Joel Potrykus' audacious black comedy, small-time scam artist Marty (an unforgettably caustic Joshua Burge) is a slacker living in Grand Rapids, Michigan, who gets by on cold SpaghettiOs and makes ends meet through a series of lousy temp jobs and small cons. When increasing paranoia forces him out of his most current dead-end gig (and into hiding in his co-worker's basement), he strikes out to wreak mayhem on Detroit, armed with nothing but a pocket full of bogus checks, a grotesquely modified Nintendo Power Glove and a bad temper. BUZZARD, the Sophomore feature from Potrykus (who won the Best Emerging Director aware at the 2012 Locarno Film Festival's for his debut feature APE) is a guerilla-stye, bitingly funny look at one man's personal rebellion against the established American order. Giuseppe Makes A Movie

Giuseppe Makes A Movie (2014)

Starring: Giuseppe Andrews,Vietnam Ron,Ed "Big Daddy" Roth,Walt Dongo,Miles Dougal

While the rest of America slept, DIY filmmaker/musician Giuseppe Andrews (a one-time teen actor in Independence Day and Detroit Rock City) has made over 30 experimental features with titles like Doily's Summer of Freak Occurrences, Trailer Town and Utopia Blues. Set in some demented alternate universe (i.e. Ventura, California), they are populated by real-life alcoholics and drug addicts, trash-talking senior citizens and trailer park residents dressed in cow outfits and costume-shop wigs, acting out booze-fueled vignettes of severe psychosis filtered through Giuseppe's John Waters-meets-Harmony Korine-meets-Werner Herzog sensibility. Searching for Sugar Man

Searching for Sugar Man (2012)

Starring: Sixto Rodriguez, Ilse Assmann, Clarence Avant

Searching for Sugar Man tells the incredible true story of Rodriguez, the greatest '70s rock icon who never was. Discovered in a Detroit bar in the late '60s by two celebrated producers struck by his soulful melodies and prophetic lyrics, they recorded an album which they believed would secure his reputation as the greatest recording artist of his generation. In fact, the album bombed and the singer disappeared into obscurity amid rumors of a gruesome on-stage suicide. But a bootleg recording found its way into apartheid South Africa and, over the next two decades, he became a phenomenon. The film follows the story of two South African fans who set out to find out what really happened to their hero. Their investigation leads them to a story more extraordinary than any of the existing myths about the artist known as Rodriguez. -- (C) Sony Pictures Classics
